Comic Status: On Hold

Wednesday, July 30th, 2008

Yeah, its a little late to announce that. Its been on hold for most of the month of July. Thats because I’ve been taking care of a few home improvement projects that needed doing, and now, I’m attempting to get my portfolio together so I can hunt for a new job. That was my promise to myself: that I’d have all of the summer to myself then I’d start looking for another job. I figure I’m good till next summer anyway, but the thing is, I really don’t want to just lay around the house. Its getting old real quick.

I’ve got the computer that I normally use for Poser tied up encoding videos to DVD format so once that is finished I’ll start working on pages 11 thru 13. I really want to progress the storyline along abit.

Well, I guess not!

Turns out the bug wasn’t Wordpress; it was the version of MySQL I was using for my developer environment. I upgraded to MySQL 5.1 and the problem went away. Thankfully, the new webhost is still running an older version of MySQL. I probably will upgrade the site to WP 2.6 when I get the chance, then.

Well, if you’re seeing this…

That means that DNS records have propagated, and you’re viewing the site on its new webhost. I got tired of being spammed and hacked while I was hosting my sites at IXWebhosting (which, I DO NOT recommend btw). It took me a while to find a webhost that was affordable and didn’t have a ToS that was unreasonably restrictive on freedom of speech. FYI, Hostmonster and Bluehost are two examples of this and for that, I won’t recommend either of them. I finally started looking at webhosts that allow “adult” content and finally, after much comparison, chose Cirtex. So far so good, although I’ve a brief moment of downtime, at least Cirtex has a server status site you can visit as well as message boards so you can stay in contact with the admins. From browsing the message board, it seems like Cirtex has decent customer support (was non-existant at IXWebhosting). I signed up for six months to see how it is but I have a fairly good feeling about this. Besides, I got cPanel back! That was another mark against IX.

Anyway, I’m going about getting the rest of my sites back up and running. I think I’ve shaken most of the bugs out of the server transfer. I also have to work on updating my theme/web-comic script for Wordpress 2.6. There seems to be a small bug in the way the posts are displayed that I haven’t been able to crack yet.
