Silent Shadow

So that relaunch? What happened?

Basically, it fizzled. Life got in the way, my old Monte Carlo decided to take a shit and die — forcing me to get a new car, and all that bull. Since then, I’ve done some half-assed stuff with Poser, not feeling particularly enthusiastic to say the least. I’ve even gone back and forth on whether or not I even want to bring back the comic.

Basically, 2011 wasn’t a good year to get anything done, let alone creative ventures. I’ve limped through the new script, occasionally doing sprints where I’d get a page or two done, and then forget about it for three/four weeks at a time. I’ve felt my creativity coming back but it’s been slow…slower than turtle-snot sometimes. Mostly, it’s that I’m fighting for time and energy to work on the comic. There are times when I have the time, then I experience two or three weeks where I don’t have the time.

I’m not giving a solid ETA this time. Not making that mistake nor do I want to get people’s hopes up.I will give a tentative ETA with the disclaimer that the timeline is subject to change. Basically, I think what has been holding up Silent Shadow was progress on another project, Manga+Press — my WordPress plugin. I’ve finally got Manga+Press 2.7 RC 1 out to the WordPress Plugin Directory, and now I feel like I may be able to do something.

Anyway, I’m happy to say that I’ve completed the new intro — did that a few weeks ago, actually. Tonight, I’ve finished the final scene. I’ve noticed that if you write the beginning and ending first, the rest generally comes together. At this point, I’m comfortable with saying that I should start rendering the first pages by the beginning of May. Of course, I need to have a new website up as well. I’ve started some wire-frames for the site, but haven’t got designs together yet. I also want to focus on social media for the site: Twitter, Facebook, and (obviously) Tumblr.

So, we’ll see what the next few months bring :D

Update: Silent Shadow Reboot Launch Date!

Actually, the title is misleading. I’ve decided to set a time-frame for the launch. My plan is to launch the last week of September. Why am I not setting a hard date? Well, too much can happen between now and the beginning of September. One of those things has already happened: I did not anticipate the release of Poser Pro 2012 in mid September. So I have to figure out just how the new version of Poser Pro is going to factor into my workflow, and I’m going to need time to figure out how to use some of the new features.

Also, I just finished the time-line for the script. That means I can start on the script and accompanying storyboards (finally).

I’m actually happy to say that it looks like things are actually starting to move. Hopefully, I can keep the momentum on the relaunch ^_^

Not Dead…Still Here

I’ve been working on the outline now and again. Recent events in life have distracted me from the goal of getting the new comic out this fall. Also, it’s been hard to work up any sense of creativity. Not sure if all of that energy is going towards the job, or the things that happened back at the end of April. But, whatever. When I get a chance, I work on the outline. When I’m stuck, I back off. Either way, whatever happens, I think I have enough to start a script and have a few pages up starting in the middle of September.

Gah

Nothing to report this week. I’ve been recovering from whatever workplace plague that has been going recently — had to go on antibiotics in order to do it, though :( I did have Poser open a few times this week but could never work up the motivation to work on anything. I’m guessing that I’ll have to try next weekend sometime. If nothing else, I should get together a timeline of when I want things done.

The way things are going, I’m almost wondering if I should put off the reboot until this fall. Between work, being sick and a general lack of motivation to work on the comic, that might not be a bad idea.

If You’re Seeing This…

Then that means the domain has propagated to the Tumblr account that I set up to help with status updates whenever I have something to say about the progress of Silent Shadow’s reboot. No, this Tumblr account won’t be the permanent home of the comic; I’ll eventually go back to self-hosting with WordPress as the engine of choice for my comic. For now, I want a way to push progress updates without having to edit html files on my server.

Other than that, nothing to report. This weekend ended up being busy so I haven’t had a chance to work on concept art for the reboot. Hopefully, next weekend I’ll be able to get something done.
